When I am doing research on the web on windshield repair I often visit many on line forums on solution to fix cracked windshields, Different people with ideas on how to stop windshield cracks from spreading further. What I find is most people don’t have a clue. Some of the recommendations I have read are using super glue, nail polish and scoring the glass etc. To keep a crack from propagating further. Not one of these methods could be further from the truth.
First of all why not use a product made for glass at the very least use one of those inferior windshield do it yourself kits, they have chemicals designed for auto glass. Don’t misunderstand me I do not endorse these cheap kits because they contain inferior low grade resin and tools but at least they are a step in the right direction. Superglue and clear nail polish are way too thick to push down in the micro fractures found in windshield repair. Not to mention how are you going force these chemicals down into the tiny breaks or evacuate the air from the damage. Trust me there is such thing called capillary action but it will not work with nail polish or superglue. Capillary action is when the chemical actually attaches to itself and helps pull itself along the break. As for SCORING the end of a windshield crack ( making a small crack at the end of a the crack running perpendicular ) Sure it would stop the crack but the crack would literally take off from the new crack you just scored.
